A maximum of two students will be accepted into the 28-week program.
During the first five months, students develop histology skills through lectures and laboratory assignments. Additional lectures include an introduction to electron microscopy and immunology. Laboratory assignments teach tissue preparation and 50 histochemical staining reactions. The last two months are spent in clinical rotation through the Surgical Pathology and the Histology laboratories, under staff supervision.
Student progress is evaluated throughout the program with exams and performance evaluations. Students must successfully complete each course to satisfy the requirements of the program.
Upon successful completion of the program graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Examination for Histotechnician (HT) administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification.
